Celebration of Wholeness
A journey of healing and recognition
This series began with a longing to capture the essence of a life long love between two people and resulted in the first piece, A Thousand Kisses. A poem by Robert Herrick (1591-1674), gave me inspiration.
To Anthea: Ah, My Anthea!.
Give me a kiss, add to that kiss a score;
Then to that twenty, add a hundred more;
A thousand to that hundred; so kiss on,
To make that thousand up a million.
Treble that million, and when that is done,
Let's kiss afresh, as when we first begun.

And after A Thousand Kisses, came Trust, the image of a woman healing in the arms of the masculine. Our feminist revolution awakened us, made us test our status quo, and inspired us to go beyond that which we were born to. Living with three sons and a husband of 34 years made me want to honor that sacred trust that is held in love between a man and a woman. The masculine is trusted because he is trustworthy as friend and protector, and has earned that trust over a lifetime. I wanted to go beyond the feminist revolutionary images of tearing down and move on to hopeful images of building trust between men and women. Our revolution has served its purpose, and now it is time for the feminine to build new structures in society, to dream, and to enter into a balanced relationship with all our kith and kin.
On the heels of Trust came Healing, the image of a strong man crying in the arms of the feminine. Recognizing the strength of the feminine as different from the strength of the masculine is also a result of the Feminist Revolution. Women have had to dig deep to remember the ancient voices we once used to share our strength and wisdom. In finding our voices we have found our strength and brought to the forefront of politics, science, and social systems a new perspective and a balanced focus. Men can trust us to balance the strength of the masculine with an equal but different kind of feminine strength, and in that trusting learn to relax in our embrace to release the heavy burdens they have carried for so long.
The Kiss Lives On is a celebration of family. When two partners decide to nurture a new generation, an enormous set of energies is set into motion. Parents struggle to find quality time with their children, each other, and themselves. Balancing one life is difficult enough, and mentoring other lives is a consuming task. Life is complicated these days, but life can also be reduced to a simple image of the original Kiss extending into new life and the new relationships a family brings. Life can be sweet. Children can offer delight and incredible insight with their as yet unsophisticated wisdom. Children do not belong to us, but are with us for a very short time to love, mentor, and inspire. Keeping that in perspective helps us through the long nights of infancy, and the trying days of the teen years. But one day that same child will walk into your home and gift you with a miracle of their own and it is then that you truly know the kiss lives on.
This series is still evolving and has two more images. Alliance depicts a man holding a pregnant woman, bending back to watch the beauty of falling stars. Star energy likens itself to new ideas and ways of being. This image engenders the attunement two humans need to create and foster new life.
A sixth image titled, Soul Light, is of a woman striding into each new moment with the all-encompassing support of her soul's light. As we enter this new age, we are coming to find that wholeness is both a healthy balance of the masculine and the feminine as well as the physical and the spirit. The ephemeral soul essence is depicted as the wind, caressing her form and joining with her in her forward motion into a life lived in a whole new way.
